John Young

Yes, sideways, and pitch down 90. Will this hurt alinement? — because I can see some targets up north.

Gus Grissom

You mean roll to the right?

Guaymas CapCom

We are standing by for your coolant pump checks.

John Young

Roll left, and pitch down.

Gus Grissom

I don't see a good target anyplace.

Gus Grissom

What did you say, Guaymas?

Guaymas CapCom

We are standing by for your report on your Coolant Pump Checks.

Gus Grissom

I don't see anything that makes a decent target at all.

John Young

Well, I can't — can you pitch down so I can see something?

Gus Grissom

Oh, you can't see anything. If I pitched straight over you could have. See?

John Young

Here, there is a target down there.

John Young

You've got to pitch the nose down. Right by the nose.

Gus Grissom

That green spot?

John Young

No, down — like straight down.

Gus Grissom

I don't know what you see.

John Young

There's all kinds of stuff. See that town down there?

John Young

Right around here on the right.

Gus Grissom

I can't see over there, John. I'll roll back to the right so we can both see. Ah yeah, there is one right down below here. Let's see if I can get it.

Gus Grissom

Guaymas, go ahead.

Guaymas CapCom

Have you completed your Coolant Pump Checks?

Gus Grissom

I'm tracking him right on around.

John Young

Okay.

Gus Grissom

You can't see the pipper.

John Young

Tell them we have done our Coolant Pump Check.

Gus Grissom

Coolant Pump Checks complete.

Guaymas CapCom

Roger. What is the status on the checks?

John Young

What difference does it make?

John Young

We couldn't get the B pumps to come on simultaneously.

Gus Grissom

We couldn't get the pumps on simultaneously.

Guaymas CapCom

Say again, Molly Brown. You're broken.

Gus Grissom

We couldn't get the pumps on simultaneously.

Guaymas CapCom

I copied you cannot get the pumps on simultaneously.

Gus Grissom

Got the pictures?

Gus Grissom

That is right up from the tip of the Gulf of California, isn't it?

Gus Grissom

I don't see the Salton Sea.

Guaymas CapCom

Guaymas standing by for your standby T/M real-time modulation check.

Gus Grissom

I can't see in here now. I'm blind.

John Young

Secondary pump is off and T/M to COMMAND.

Guaymas CapCom

Molly Brown, Guaymas CAP COM.

Gus Grissom

Go ahead, Guaymas.

Guaymas CapCom

We are standing by for your standby telemetry transmitter check with real-time.

John Young

Okay. Tell them to stand by. T/M's in REAL-TIME.

Gus Grissom

Standby T/M is in REAL-TIME.

Guaymas CapCom

Roger.

John Young

Hey, Gus. We are coming up on El Paso.

Guaymas CapCom

Molly Brown, that T/M check is okay on the ground.

John Young

Yes.

John Young

You've got to pitch over. It's beneath us.

John Young

That's the mountain range right there. See that hill right over there? I think El Paso is under the clouds.

Guaymas CapCom

Molly Brown, Guaymas. Would you say again the trouble you are having with your pump check?

Gus Grissom

We had no trouble with the pump check.

Guaymas CapCom

Roger.

Guaymas CapCom

Would you remove pump A off of primary?

Gus Grissom

Is pump A off primary?

Gus Grissom

Pump A is off primary.

John Young

Well, No. 2 audio to RECORD. Suit Fan No. 2 — check.

John Young

Change the tape again over the Cape.

Guaymas CapCom

Molly Brown. This is Guaymas handing you over to Texas.

John Young

There is nothing down there to see. You know it?

Gus Grissom

That sight blocks the window. Know it?

John Young

Yeah, I know it.

Gus Grissom

I couldn't track it in Pulse.

Gus Grissom

How much fuel will we need for the next burn?

John Young

The standard burn is 93 ft/sec. We will have enough.

Gus Grissom

We're alined okay, now.

Gus Grissom

Go ahead, Cape CAP COM.

Gordon Cooper (CapCom)

Do you have your standby telemetry transmitter on and ready for a tape dump?

Gus Grissom

Okay. Our standby T/M is in REAL-TIME.

Gordon Cooper (CapCom)

Okay. You are commanding it on. All righty, we'll give you the word on it then. What is the status of your other platform modes, Molly BrownBEF or Free?

Gordon Cooper (CapCom)

What is the status of your other platform modes, such as BEF and Free?

Gus Grissom

Well SEF is fine. Orbit Rate is the one that drives me off in roll. I haven't checked BEF yet. I'll go ahead and give it a check now.

Gordon Cooper (CapCom)

How long does it take you to build up this quarter degree rate in that yaw rate, starting from zero yaw rate?

Gus Grissom

Gordo, it just gradually accelerates. It's some slow leak out there.

Gordon Cooper (CapCom)

Roger. Are you satisfied with obtaining and holding your attitudes visually?

Gus Grissom

Roger, and the platform is alining properly in SEF.
